Event Details

The Armitt Museum

Join us at The Armitt for a special event as we celebrate the launch of a second edition of Ann Radcliffe’s Observations during a Tour to the Lakes, edited and introduced by Dr Penny Bradshaw.

In 1794, Ann Radcliffe was at the very height of her fame, having already published three of her most successful Gothic novels before producing her account of her experiences in the region titled Observations during a Tour to the Lakes.

A scholarly edition of Observations was first published by Penny Bradshaw in 2014. This 10th-anniversary edition, published by Hobnob Press in March, provides a new generation with an opportunity to experience Radcliffe’s literary perspectives on a landscape that was still in the process of imaginative discovery.

The event will include a talk and Q&A with Penny Bradshaw, as well as an opportunity to purchase a copy of the new edition and have it signed. Light refreshments will also be provided.
