The posts of Museum Assistants for The Armitt are an exciting opportunity to get involved in a growing and developing cultural venue that sits in the heart of the Lake District. These roles are crucial to ensuring we always deliver a great visitor service and experience every day for every person.

Both roles are primarily about making each visitor’s experience memorable for all the right reasons – providing a warm and friendly welcome, efficiently processing their ticket and/or shop purchases, talking with visitors about the Bridge House, the museum and its displays, and engaging in active discussions. The roles also have secondary focuses – one to support with events and education, getting involved with family activities, school groups, and event hosting; the other for helping to reopen Bridge House successfully.

We are looking for people with positive, proactive, and “can-do” attitudes, and behaviours that reflect the values of the organisation. The roles require a flexible approach as you may be covering evening and weekend work, and variable shift patterns given on a monthly rota.

To apply for either of these roles, please send your CV and a covering letter, specifying which of the roles you are interested in, and detail why you would suit the position, to Faye Morrissey at

We, the Friends, exist to support the Armitt Collection and encourage research and general interest in the English Lake District. We support the museum by assisting in the purchase of additions to the collection; sponsoring specific projects by the Trust; providing a forum and interest group for the many volunteers who put so much time into the Trust; and helping to publicise the Armitt.

Friends benefit from:
FREE ENTRY where charges are made; invitations to attend special Friends’ events including private views, visits to places of interest and social events; the chance to meet like-minded people who share an enthusiasm for ensuring this unique collection flourishes into the future.
