RUNNING INT' FELLS
Have you ever wondered why people run on the fells? Maybe it is to experience the scenery and the landscape. Maybe it is for a challenge. Maybe it is for mental and physical well-being. Or maybe it is just for the joy of it. For whatever reason, The Armitt is delighted to be partnering with members of the fell running community to create this co-curated display which is the first of its kind in Cumbria – an exhibition that focuses purely on fell running.
From its early beginnings at Grasmere Sports and Guide races, the development of the Bob Graham round and record holders (and breakers!), through to its expansion today into ultra running and trail running, there is something for the runner, historian and tourist to discover.
We have historic objects, photographs, books, equipment, video and audio some of which have rarely been seen or heard before. We’ll be telling stories about “why we run”, with support from other museums and individuals too. We want you to get involved with the exhibition as well.
- Tell us where your favourite Cumbrian fell run is and add it to our map wall.
See the Running Int’ Fells website for more details or our events page for ticketing.
There is an optional 50p donation on admission tickets with funds raised going to a charity working to protect the fells and the Lake District landscape. There is also a further donation point in the exhibition should you like to give more. Thank you for your support.
