Event Details

15th March
18:00–19:30

Join academic and writer Kerri Andrews for an event discussing the too-often neglected history of women walkers. At this talk, Kerri will consider the importance of recognising a female tradition of walking and writing, and, while the talk will roam far and wide, there will be a particular focus on the role played by the women of the Lake District in establishing this tradition, especially Dorothy Wordsworth and Harriet Martineau.

About the speaker
Kerri Andrews is the author of the best-selling Wanderers: A History of Women Walking (Reaktion), and the editor of Way Makers, the first-ever anthology dedicated to women’s writing about walking. She is also the editor of the first-ever edition of Scottish nature writer Nan Shepherd’s correspondence. As well as writing about walking, Kerri enjoys walking herself, and can often be found in the hills of the Scottish Borders, where she is based.
