From July – October 2021, The Armitt will be expanding its activities, including running art workshops for families, children’s trails around the museum, and Behind the Scenes events.

To expand and diversify its offer to visitors this season, The Armitt has put in place a programme of activities that will draw people into exploring the heritage and culture of Ambleside and the Lake District.

There will be family art workshops led by local artists and using inspiration from The Armitt’s collection along with different art materials like paints, pastels, and collage, everyone will have something to take home at the end. In addition, The Armitt will be encouraging families to explore and learn about the museum through children’s trails around the exhibitions.

Then, the series of Behind the Scenes events will allow visitors a special opportunity to really delve into the different topics of The Armitt’s collections and even handle some objects. With expert speakers, including Professor David Breeze on Ambleside Roman Fort, they are sure to be events not to miss.

Faye Morrissey, Manager & Curator of The Armitt said, “We’re increasing our programme of events and activities at The Armitt, so we’re looking forward to welcoming visitors who are both local and on holiday in the Lake District. There will be something for everyone to enjoy and take part in”.
